I have really enjoyed playing in the DTGD challenges this week and have especially loved going back to my roots to create scenes with watercolor, sponged and sketched backgrounds. For my project today I sponged in the water, ground area and sky using  Inkssentials ink blending tools, ColorBox stylus handle and foam tips and mini applicators.  I added some faint texture to the grassy area with the mini fern stamp from the Kittie Kits Outdoor Master and sketched in a few weeds in the background with a distress marker.

I attached the Grass Border to the back of the frame with double stick tape.  I cut off a couple branches from the Tree Frame so it could fit inside the frame, colored it with brown ink and a brown Copic marker and attached to the back of the frame with double stick tape.  I applied thin strips of mounting tape to the back of the frame and attached it to the scenic card base. I cut several sections of stems from the Leaves and Stems set, cut off a section of each to shorten and then attached to the branches with glossy accents. I attached tiny flowers from Susan's Sunflower to the tree branches and also to the remaining cut off portions of the stems to tuck in behind the grass.  The Tall Grass sections were added on both sides of the frame to soften..

I cut the ducks from the Farm Girl set using white cardstock and sponged them with shabby shutters and wild honey ink.  I guess I should have left the larger ducks white and only colored their feet and beaks but didn’t think of it until sitting here writing my post.  Oh well!  LOL! I cut the legs and feet off the smaller ducks so I could make them appear to be swimming in the pond and then attached them with rolled up glue dots.  I couldn’t resist adding the three butterflies to the scene for the finishing touch.

I hope you have been enjoying my DTGD projects this week.  I have several more to post over the next few days.  Happy Friday and I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Traditional Silent Night

Good Sunday morning. Today I have the pleasure of hosting the Splitcoaststampers Featured Stampers Challenge. I hope you will come on over and check it out. Nancy Williams, better known as nwilliams6 is our featured artist this week. I chose Nancy’s  Watercolor Uspy Daisy to case and my clean and simple project was made using the Impression Obsession Silent Night and the trees from the Kittie Kits The Moose is Loose.

I stamped the Silent Night image with black versafine ink and then heat embossed with clear embossing powder. I stamped the trees with forest moss distress ink and then light touched them with a damp waterbrush in a stipple like motion to create a watercolor appearance to the trees.

I applied mounting tape to both the image layer and the green layer to create dimension and interest to the card.  I added the red ribbon and multi loop bow was the finishing touch.

Faux Watercolor Tree Scene

Good Sunday morning.  Have you taken any of the Online Card Classes?  I registered this past week for the Watercolor for Card Makers class and it is chocked full of techniques. I have had a wonderful time watching the video tutorials and have been inspired to get out a stamp or two to try my hand at creating a faux watercolor scene. I couldn’t resist adding a few die cut butterflies for a little dimension. Here’s what I came up with.

I started by stamping in the tree top using the mini fern from Kittie Kits Outdoor Master.  I stamped in light and dark green, yellow and dark pink.  When I was finished I lightly touch the lots of the little dots with a wet brush for the watercolor effect.

I sketched in the tree trunk with a brown marker and filled in with my wet brush.  I added green grass to ground area and added the appearance of flowers in pink with the mini fern.  I used an Inkssentials ink blending tool to sponge yellow around the tree.  It really isn’t as bright as it appears in the picture. I finished by framing with a double mounted frame and adding a few tiny butterflies for interest and a touch of dimension to the flat surface.  KC Memory Box Butterfly Delights 1 right

Playing with my Kittie Kits and brush takes me back to my beginnings in paper crafting.  I need to play with ink and brushes and get my fingers inky more often.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a wonderful Sunday.

Little Country Pond

Good morning.  My project was made for the Splitcoaststampers Clean and Simple Challenge to use some form of water.  I decided to pull out some inks and reinkers, a brush, a couple mini applicators and ink blending tools, and the mini fern from my Kittie Kits Outdoor master to create a country landscape scene.  It’s been a long time since I created a project using no die cuts. LOL It is certainly a primitive scene but I sure had fun getting my fingers inky.

Using Color Box stylus and foam tip I applied the blue pond water and then applied green ground area around the pond. I set the ink by drying with my heat gun.

Using a brush with reinker mixed with water I painted in the tree trunks and limbs and heat set.  Using a mini applicator I applied green around the branches to create the tree tops and heat set. Using a ink blending tool I applied blue ink to the sky area and heat set.

I applied texture to the grassy area and the tree tops with the mini fern stamp from my Kittie Kits outdoor master. I finished by adding pink flowers around the the pond area and tree line with the mini fern stamp.

This is no great work of art but it takes me back to my beginnings in paper crafting.  I have always loved creating outdoor scenes around stamped images. My scenes became more and more dimensional with the introduction of all of the wonderful dies we have today.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a wonderful day.

Impression Obsession “Words of Encouragement” Design Team Challenge

Good Thursday morning and welcome to the Impression Obsession “Words of Encouragement” design team challenge.  Before I start my post I want to take the opportunity to welcome Ellen Taylor to our design team. It’s a little late because she has been with us for several weeks. I had the privilege of serving with Ellen on another team and she is so much fun and super talented.

I have had the Riding Pretty stamp set for quite a while and this is the first time I have used it.  I love the bicycle and the additional images and sentiments.

Impression Obsession Clear Stamp Set: Riding Pretty

For my project today I paired the Riding Pretty set with the Solid Tree set, Tree die, Leaf Cluster, Grass Border and the brand new Small Grass Border.

I started by brushing clear water all over my entire piece of watercolor paper to prepare for applying the blue sky ink as well as the green grass ground area.  I dipped my very wet brush into pure tumbled glass reinker and and painted it across the whole top portion of the page and allowing the ink to run down the page.  I smoothed the ink out some with the brush and stopped it right at the grass line. I then quickly dipped my wet brush into pure peeled paint reinker and painted it over the ground area.  I heat dried the paper to prepare it for the creating my scene.

I stamped the bike with black versafine and heat set and colored it with a brush and reinkers.  I stamped the tree using vintage photo and stamped the leaves all around the tree branches with peeled paint.  I cut a mask for the bike and covered it so I could stamp in a few of the mini evergreen trees (I love that precious little tree stamp in this set) around the scene.  I also used the grass stamp from my Kittie Kits Outdoor Master to fill in the ground area. I stamped the basket and bunny image and painted and cut out to pop up in the scene.  I cut the tree die out of watercolor paper, painted it and then cut several leaf clusters to attach to the tree branches.  I cut the leaf clusters apart so the leaves would be small enough to fit well on the tree.

I attached lots of tiny red flowers to the tree and attached the tree right over the stamped tree with rolled up glue dots. I attached several red flowers to the stamped leaves to fill in the tree top. I added a few foliage springs and flowers to the basket and attached it with rolled up glue dots. I attached the two grass borders, added tiny flowers along the border and popped that sweet bunny in for the final finishing touch. Here’s a little closer view to show the dimension of the scene.

Note to self…..never, ever wait until you are completely through with your scene to stamp the sentiment.  You may get it on crooked and have to either live with the boo boo or totally remake your project.  Uh….I don’t think so.  LOL!  Smile

Check out my step by step Tree Scene tutorial if you would like to know how I created my tree for this project.
