Rustic Christmas Wreath

Good Sunday morning.  I love making wreath projects and couldn’t resist purchasing the new Penny Black Layered Christmas Wreath set with the pine, holly, berry and mistletoe sprigs.  While I was shopping I picked up the Antique Frame Set as well.  For my project today I created a rustic wreath and cut a rustic frame using Essentials by Ellen Tan Woodgrain cardstock.

I cut several sets of foliage using green cardstock and several pieces of pine using brown cardstock.  Before beginning to assemble the wreath I applied Autumn Red Crystal Drops to the berry branches and Simply White Crystal Drops to the mistletoe berries and set them aside to dry.  I cut the frame using the tan woodgrain cardstock and applied Vintage Photo ink by swiping the ink pad directly over the paper.  I smoothed out the color using a damp baby wipe and heat set the ink using my heat gun. I applied thin strips of mounting tape to the back of the frame and attached it to the card base.

I used the leaf tool and leaf pad  to apply scored lines on the holly leaves. I started assembling the wreath by attaching the holly branches around the wreath base using glossy accents. Next I tucked the pine branches around the holly leaves and attached with glossy accents.  Once the crystal drops were dried on the berries and mistletoe branches I tucked them around the holly and pine and attached with glossy accents.  I finished the wreath by adding a multi loop bow

I took a close up picture of the wreath so you could get a good look at how nice the crystal drops look on the branches.  I love how they dried with a dimensional appearance.

The pictures just don’t this project justice.  I probably should have used a cream card base instead of white.  It is just so much prettier in person.

I wanted to take the opportunity to mention that the Vintage Frame set comes assembled with the thin wires that need to be cut off.  I don’t remember often enough to draw your attention to the small hand held Dremel that I use us to smooth off those pointed wire edges.  The Dremel makes quick work of smoothing the edges and is so much faster than trying to file them down by hand.  I’ve linked the Dremel below in case you want to check it out. The time savings and good finish makes it well worth the price.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you are enjoying your Sunday.
