Branch Framed Garden Scene

Good Monday afternoon.  I have a stamped watercolor garden scene to share with you today using the Art Impressions Watercolor Tree Set, Watercolor Foliage Set and Watercolor Flower Set paired with the Impression Obsession Branches Corner.  I used my retired Stampin’ Up! Watercolor Mini fern stamp to create the leaves on the trees. I used Distress Markers to apply ink to the stamps and used water brushes to  pull the color out for the grass and lightly touched the flowers to soften.

I secured the watercolor paper in my MISTI with the magnets and set the tree stamp in place, applied ink and stamped a couple of times to get good coverage.  I repeated this  step two more times to create three trees.  You can really only see two well in the scene.  I tried something different for my trees this time and I like how it worked.  I stamped the trees in green thinking it would be easier to cover the upper branches when applying leaves.  Then I took my brown marker and colored over the green trunk and lower branches.  It worked great. Next I stamped the leaves using a darker green and lighter green to fill in the tree.  I used the darker green to stamp the grass images leaving small spaces in between each image.  I added purple flowers all around the tree trunks and ground area.  Then I used a damp brush to pull the green from the grass images to fill in all around the flowers and used a wet brush to pull the green out to the edges of the scene.  I added a few pink flowers in the background to draw the eye back.  I applied tiny dots of white gel pen to the center of each of the purple flowers. I finished the scene by sponging blue in the sky area using an ink blending tool.

I cut four Branches Corners to use to create the branch frame.  I applied double stick tape to the back three sides of the frame.  I attached one full branch in the left corner, turned one on it’s side and attached to the right side of the frame.  I cut the other two branches apart and attached to the lower sides of the frame.  I attached the scene to the card base using ATG adhesive.  I applied thin strips of mounting tape to the back of the frame and attached it over the scene to finish.

Shore Birds

Good Sunday morning.  I have a simple beach scene to share with you today made using the Impression Obsession Shore Birds and Small Grass.  The frame was made using the My Favorite Things Pierced Rectangle Frames

KC Impression Obsession Shore Birds 5 right

I started by applying Vintage Photo ink to the bottom of the scene layer as well as a separate piece of cardstock using an ink blending too.  I applied a little bit of texture to the sand using a stamp from a retired Stampin’ Up! set called Itty Bitty Backgrounds. I used my deckle scissors to cut the front sand layer.  I masked off the sky area and applied Broken China ink to the water portion of the scene and then removed the mask and softly applied blue in the sky area.  I heat set the ink with my heat gun. I applied white embossing paste to water’s edge using my finger in a light tapping motion and before it dried I sprinkled clear glitter over the paste for a touch of sparkle.  I used a black Copic marker using a scribble motion to color the birds back and head.

I applied double stick tape to the bottom back of the frame and attached the front sand section. I applied thin strips of mounting tape all the way around the frame and attached it to the scene layer. I attached a blue layer behind the scene with ATG adhesive to break up some of the white. The whole frame scene was attached to the card base using ATG adhesive. I tucked the small grass sections in behind the frame and sand layer attaching with glossy accents.  The birds were attached in the scene with small pieces of mounting tape.

Essentials by Ellen Christmas in July

Good Saturday morning.   We are still enjoying the lazy days of summer but it's always fun to think about crafting for the holidays! And the Essentials by Ellen line is full of holiday stamps & dies that inspire us to get creating! You will definitely want to hop on over to the CLASSroom to see the wonderful projects by our design team.  Be sure and check out the 40% off Christmas in July Sale Category  at the bottom of my post.

There is nothing more fun to me than making snowman holiday cards.  Snowmen are so whimsical and happy looking.  Julie’s Fat Pants Stamps and Fat Pants Die Set offers different coordinating faces, beards, hats and scarf images to mix and match together to create fun holiday characters.  I used a tree image from Brandi’s Tree Farm Stamps and Tree Farm Die Set accompany the snowman and used the JOY from Julie’s Holiday Words Die Set for the sentiment.

I cut the head of the snowman and punched two graduated larger circles for the body.  I secured the head and mid-section pieces in place on my MISTI and stamped the face and coal images using black versafine.  I applied a second coat of black versa and stamped a second time to get good crisp images. I can’t say enough how much I love both my MISTI and Mini MISTI.  Do you have o ne?  If not you don’t know what you're missing.  I attached the three circles together using glossy accents to create the whole snowman body.  Next I cut the hat and attached a thin red ribbon using double stick tape.  I attached mini branch sections and tiny red punched circles using glossy accents. I cut a piece of Christmassy ribbon to use as a scarf and cut fringe on both ends.  I used the tip of my paper piercer to separate and feather out the fringe. I attached the ribbon to the snowman using glue dots and embellished it with another mini branch arrangement.

I stamped the tree using black versafine, die cut it and then ran it through my crimper to add a little dimension.  I cut the JOY and added one more little mini branch arrangement to the O.  I like adding little design elements like these in threes.

I cut two ground snow sections and attached them to the back of the red frame using double stick tape. Next I attached thin strips of mounting tape to the back of the frame and attached it to the card base.  I tucked the snowman in between the ground sections and attached him in place using pieces of mounting tape.  I turned the tree a little sideways and attached it to the snowman using mounting tape. I finished the scene by attaching the JOY to the ground sections using double pieces of  mounting tape.  I got a little crazy with a Crafter’s Companion Sparkle Pen and applied sparkle to the whole tree and all the mini branches and berries.  The sparkle doesn’t show up well in the photos but it looks great in person. I think all the colorful elements of the snowman scene pop perfectly against the all white background.

My project today was made using the new Solid Holly background stamp paired with the Large Poinsettia Set, Small Poinsettia Set, Holly Flourish, Pine Pair, Foliage and the Merry Christmas Sentiment.

I started by placing the holly background stamp and paper in my MISTI.  I applied versa to the stamp and stamped three different times to get full coverage.  I think I need to add versa refill to my pad.  Anyway…..the beauty is that my MISTI held my stamp exactly in place which allowed me to stamp over and over again until I got the image I wanted and kept it perfectly in line. I applied clear embossing powder to the holly stamped image and heat embossed.  I cut a full set of large and small poinsettias and used a mini applicator to apply Festive Berry ink to all the petals.  I cut two large poinsettia sections in green to use as my background foliage for the poinsettia and a couple holly flourish sections and pine pairs and used a mini applicator to apply Peeled Paint to the leaves.  Although the red and green ink doesn’t really show up well in the picture it adds depth to the flower and foliage.  I applied several small 1/8” punched circles to the holly branches.  I cut a small branch of foliage leaves in yellow to use in the center of the flower and applied Mustard Seed ink using a mini applicator.

The sentiment was attached to the white layer using thin strips of mounting tape. The sentiment layer was attached to the card base using mounting tape.

I formed the flower petals using my stylus and molding pad and attached the sections together using glossy accents.  I attached the green leaves to the back of the flower and attached with glossy accents.  I applied a good amount of glossy accents to the back of the poinsettia and attached it to the card base.  I curled the small mustard colored leaves, applied Crafter’s Pick glue to each and set them in the center of the flower. The beauty of the Crafter’s Pick glue is that it dries perfectly clear but takes lots more time to dry than glossy accents.  I gently formed the holly and pine with my fingers and tucked them under the poinsettia and attached with glossy accents. I love how pretty the poinsettia and foliage looks against the green holly background and with the pop of white for the sentiment.
