Framed Songbird Branch

Good Wednesday morning.  I needed to make a wedding card and thought the Impression Obsession Songbird Branch  would look pretty in all white against a silver shimmery paper and framed with the Square Frame

KC Impression Obsession Songbird Branch 2

I cut the Songbird Branch three times.  One to use as the base and the others for extra branches and an extra set of extra birds.  I cut the branches off of both sides of the branch base and attached it to the back of the frame with double stick tape.  I formed the leaves on the branches with my stylus and molding pad to add a more natural appearance.  I attached extra branches to the base birds and branch with glossy accents.  I didn’t want the raw cut ends of the branches to show so I cut the birds off one of the extra branches and attached them over top of the base birds using rolled glue dots.

The square silver layer was attached to the card base with mounting tape. Once I had the extra branches and birds in place I turned the frame over and applied thin strips of mounting tape all the way around and on the back of the birds and attached it to the card base.  I wish you see could this card in person.  The white images look elegant and pretty against the soft silver background.  It was difficult to get good pictures.  The card is 5.00” square.

Sea Turtle

Good Tuesday morning.  My project today was made using the new Impression Obsession Sea Turtle paired with Small Grass and Rectangle 6-in-1 Frames.  I created the blue and green background using a new technique I learned from the Splitcoaststampers Technique Lovers Challenge on Monday.

First I created the background using Broken China and Peeled Paint Distress Inks, a craft sheet, a mini mister and an old credit card.  I started by applying Broken China ink directly to the craft sheet with the ink pad.  I misted the ink with my mini mister and then dipped just the edge of the credit card into the watery ink and swiped it across the cardstock to apply ink and repeated the step until I was pleased with the amount of coverage I had.  I cleaned the craft sheet and repeated the same steps using Peeled Paint.  I wasn’t sure I liked the background at first but then thought it was the perfect watery background for the turtle.  I attached it to the card base using strips of mounting tape.

I cut the turtle, applied Crafter’s Pick glue to the back of it and attached it to the darker cardstock.  The good thing about Crafter’s Pick is that it is clear when it dries.  I used my snips to cut around the border of the turtle to remove the excess darker cardstock.  I applied double stick tape to the back of the frame along the bottom and attached the grass pieces.  I applied Cosmic glitter glue to the grass and then sprinkled with clear glitter.  I applied thin strips of mounting tape to the back of the frame and attached it to the card base.

I added shimmer to the turtle and watery background using a Spectrum Noir clear sparkle pen. You can see it a little better in the close up photo.

Land of the Free

Good Monday morning.  My project today is a patriotic card in honor of Memorial Day and was made using the Impression Obsession US Flag, Land of the Free and the Flag Banner dies.  These are perfect dies to use for the Fourth of July and Veterans day as well.

I cut the whole flag in red and again in white and the star section in blue.  I turned the white flag base front side down, removed the white stripes and filled back in with the red stripes.  Once they were all in place I used strips of tape to hold them in place.  Next I removed all the blue stars from the blue section and taped it in place from the back with a strip of tape. I turned the flag front side up so I could fill in the white stars.  I took the white star section and laid it directly over the blue and pushed the stars down in to the matching openings with my paper piercer.  This worked pretty well and I was able to get most of them tucked in place.  There were a few stragglers that I had to round up and set in place.  I applied wide strips of mounting tape to the back of the flag and attached to the card base.

I cut the Land of the Free in blue and white and used both to create a shadow and to add a little more interest to the letters.  I used Crafter’s Pick glue to attach the letters together and  lightly tapped the glue to the back of the white words with my finger and attached them to the blue.  I cut thin pieces of mounting tape and attached in several key places on the back of the words and attached them in place on the card base. I cut three flags off the flag banner, attached mounting tape to the back of each and tucked them in under the flag.  I thought they added another element of interest.

Lighthouse and Sea Birds

Good Sunday morning.  I made a card a couple of weeks ago using the Impression Obsession Lighthouse Circle die and using bright red, white and blue.  I also showed a photo of a much softer watercolor card made by Jeanne Streiff using the same die  .  For my project today I created a much more muted project in soft blues and cream and this time I added Sea Birds and lots of white sparkly sea foam.

I cut a piece of hot pressed watercolor paper into a 4.50” square, lined the die up on the paper and ran through the Big Shot.  I colored the water and lighthouse using Copic markers. I added a touch of brown along the bottom edge of the lighthouse to create the appearance of a rocky ground base but I wish I hadn’t.  I think it might have looked better in all blue.  I added little yellow scraps of cardstock behind the window and attached with tape. I cut a 4.00” square of watercolor paper to use as the background for the scene.  I used a large brush to wash the paper with plain water and got it very wet allowing the water to pool on the whole piece. I then applied full strength Broken China reinker and allowed the ink to run a bit before using the brush to smooth it out.  I kept adding reinker until I got the color I wanted.  I’ve said this many times in the past but it bears repeating.  Distress reinkers are wonderful to watercolor with, are extremely concentrated and a little bit goes a very long way making it last almost forever.

I heat dried the background paper.  I applied white embossing paste to both the water portion of the lighthouse piece as well as the watery background.  I used my finger (one of my favorite tools) to lightly pat and tap the paste to create the sea foam and sprinkled clear glitter on it before it had a chance to dry.  The litter stuck perfectly anywhere that I had touched with the paste.  You can see a closer view below although none of the pictures show how pretty and sparkly it is in person. I attached the background to the lighthouse frame using strips of mounting tape.  Next I applied ATG adhesive to the back of the frame layer and attached to the blue piece and then attached the whole thing to the card base using ATG adhesive.

I applied Antique Linen ink to the birds using a mini applicator, bent their wings a little with my fingers and attached to the frame with pieces of mounting tape.  The smallest bird was attached to the background using rolled up glue dots. I really like that there are only a couple colors used that creates a sort of monochromatic feel.

Shell Border Beach Card

Good Saturday morning.  Summer is almost here and I have a beach card  to share with you today using the new Impression Obsession Shell Border with soft colors and a touch of sparkle and ocean surf.

KC Impression Obsession Shell Border 1 right

I cut the shell border piece using cream colored cardstock.  I applied Antique Linen and Worn Lipstick ink to the shells using a mini applicator.  I used a very light touch when adding the ink to the shells to keep the colors soft.  I applied the Antique Linen ink across the whole top portion of the beach area  and created an uneven sandy border so I could create the ocean surf washing up on shore.  I applied Tumbled Glass ink to create the surf water.

I used the Spectrum Noir Clear Sparkle Pen to add some shimmer and sparkle to the sand and the shell border but it doesn’t show well in the photos.  I applied Cosmic glitter glue to the water using my finger and then sprinkled with clear glitter.  I heat set the glue and glitter and then applied the white embossing paste with my finger along the surf’s edges to create the appearance of foam.  I finished by adding the Salt Life sentiment. I used the same soft blue paper for the sentiment that I used for the card base.
