Bunnies In The Flower Garden

Good Sunday morning.  I have a framed watercolor project to share with you today using my new WPlus9 Fresh Cut Florals set paired with the Impression Obsession Rabbit Set, Memory Box Butterfly Delights and Sizzix Border, Label, Medallion and Key.  I enjoyed getting my waterbrush out and creating this small watercolor scene.

The tiny flowers and stems in the set were fun to play with using multistep stamping and layering.  I softened them by lightly touching with my damp brush. I used a green marker to lightly apply a few grass ground spots and then moved the color around with my brush. I applied both darker pink ink and green ink to an acrylic block and picked up touches of ink to lightly fill in around the flower petals and stems.  I sponged in the blue sky and then moved the color around a little with my brush.

I cut the frame, attached mounting tape to the back and then placed it over the scene.  I like having the little distance between the frame opening and scene.  I think it adds an element of dimension and interest. I applied adhesive to the back of the scene and attached to the card base.

I cut the bunnies using white cardstock and applied color with brown ink and a mini applicator.  Check out my step by step tutorial on coloring die cut animals if you would like to see how I applied ink to the bunnies. I attached the bunnies on the frame and scene layer with small pieces of mounting tape.  I added a few butterflies to bring one more element of the dark pink for the perfect finishing touch.

Birch Trees and Deer Scene

Good Saturday morning.  Cards for men are a little challenging for lots of us but I find you can’t go wrong with a few deer and in a forest setting.  My project today is a masculine nature scene made using the Taylored Expressions Birch Tree Cutting Plate paired with the Impression Obsession Deer Trio, Grass Border, Leafy Branch, Small Bird Set and Fir Tree stamp .

The birch trees die creates the perfect background for a nature scene. I stamped a few fir trees on the card base to add depth and interest behind the birch. I cut the birch out of white cardstock and added touches of color and definition using pumice stone  and vintage photo ink and a mini applicator. I created a double matted frame and attached it to the trees die using mounting tape. I added another layer of mounting tape to the back of the trees and frame and attached it to the card base. I wanted there to be layers of dimension between the frame as well as between the trees and the base.

I cut a grass border and attached to the frame and then covered it with a hand cut deckle ground base.  I cut the deer, sponged color on  them with vintage photo ink and a mini applicator. I inserted the deer into the scene attaching with double layers of mounting tape.  I wanted them to appear as if they are standing out in front of the trees and adding another level of dimension. I tucked a few pieces of the leafy branch around in the scene to make it look more like a forest and finished by adding a few red birds and tiny red flowers.

Peaceful Tree Scene

Good Tuesday morning.  My project today was made for the Splitcoaststampers Clean and Simple challenge. A few weeks ago I watched Dawn’s Watercolor Trees video tutorial on the WPlus9 Design Blog.  I had to hop on over to Ellen’s and check out the Coming Up Roses stamp set used on the video and I got it in the mail last night.  The set has several images that work well for scenery as well as some wonderful multistep rose images.

Here’s what I came up with.

I stamped the tree and branch brown and then filled in the tree top using light and darker green and aqua and turquoise inks.  I lightly touched several of the leaves and trunk with my waterbrush to give a watercolor appearance.

I put a fine layer of water on the ground area around the tree trunk and then applied light green ink. I filled in the grass area with the same textured stamp used on the tree top and then lightly added added a few delicate flowers.  I just couldn’t resist adding the three blue birds for a touch of dimension and for a sweet finishing touch.KC WPlus9 Coming Up Roses 1 right

Leftovers Floral Bouquet

Good Monday morning.  Do you keep single flowers,  pieces or parts that you have leftover from a project and toss it in a storage bin thinking “I’ll use that on something someday”? My project today is made with several single leftover flowers that I have had for a while and thought they would be pretty created into a mix floral bouquet.  There is no rhyme or reason to the color combination but that is one of the things I like best about it.

Have you seen the new line of Creative Expressions dies over at Ellen Hutson?  I saw them for the first time last week and couldn’t resist ordering a couple of them.  I used the  Hollywood die set from the California Collection to frame my bouquet. I thought the informal flower grouping would be pretty paired with the delicate decorative layer.

I cut the decorative layer and layered it over the base frame layer with mounting tape.  I attached both layers to the card base with mounting tape for one additional element of dimension and interest.

I attached the five larger flowers to the base with glossy accents.  I lightly formed the foliage with my molding pad and stylus and tucked the pieces in around the flowers attaching with glossy accents. I finished by attaching the three smallest rolled roses in with the foliage.

Here’s a closer view.  Don’t they look like they were just picked out of the garden.

Path To The Birdhouse

Good Sunday morning.  I’ve been having fun creating scenes the last several days and getting my fingers inky.  For my project today I used the Memory Box Orchard Tree Frame and Debutante Frame paired with the Impression Obsession Birdhouse Set and Small Bird Set.

Both the Orchard Tree and Debutant frames were cut using Fabriano Artistico watercolor paper. The tree and limbs were watercolored using a waterbrush and reinkers.  I colored the leaves and frame border with a green distress marker

The fence was sketched in using distress markers and lightly watercolored with reinker. The grass and path area was sponged in using mini applicators and the sky was sponged in using an ink blending tool and cloud template.

The tree frame was attached over the scene layer with small strips of mounting tape. The birdhouse was cut twice, once for the body of the house and a second time so I cut cut the roof line off.  I applied brown ink to the house with a mini applicator and colored the roof and base section with a red marker. The house was attached to the scene with mounting tape.  The birds were cut in red and colored over with the red marker for a darker shade of red to match the birdhouse.  They were popped up in the branches and on the house with small pieces of mounting tape. I punched a few tiny dark red circles and popped them up on the tree branches and added a few to the roof of the birdhouse along with a couple sprigs of fir.

A few people wrote and asked questions about the Fabriano Artistico Watercolor Paper.  This paper is a heavy paper and is traditional white.  It is hot pressed meaning it is very smooth and does not have a bumpy texture like cold pressed paper.  It is a dream not only to watercolor on but also works beautifully for sponging on color.image

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a great Sunday.
