Christmas Past and Blog Candy

Good Monday morning.  My project today is a little out of my wheelhouse.  I have had the Graphic 45 Christmas Past Collection for quite a while and have rarely used it.  I love the images but it is 12” by 12” and most of the images and designs are too large for card making. I broke down and cut the cherubs out of the Ode to Joy and thought they would be beautiful on a card paired with poinsettias and holly.

I started by cutting out the frame layers.  I used vanilla cardstock for the decorative border and applied metallic rich gold Pan Pastel to it to make it match the designer paper.  The second frame layer was cut out of the backside of the paper and was attached to the base with mounting tape. I attached a folded 5” x 3” card to the back ofthe frame.

I cut the image out using my snips. I cut three sets of poinsettias out of vanilla cardstock, applied red Pan Pastel for the color and then applied rich gold pastel to add a shimmer to the flowers.  I cut the holly and pine sprigs using artichoke and applied rich gold pastel to them as well.  Sadly none of this gold glimmer shows in the photos but it’s really stunning in person.

I arranged the foliage on the base and attached with glossy accents.  I attached the cherubs image to the base using mounting tape and then attached the poinsettias with glossy accents. I tucked a few sprigs of pine around each poinsettia to soften.

I just got my order of new Pan Pastel colors this week and realized I ordered one of the colors in my Susan's Garden set.  340 Permanent Red Tint. Ugh!  I hate when I do that but it always give me the opportunity to share some blog candy with you.  All you have to do to qualify for the Pan Pastel, Sofft Knife and Cover is leave me a comment by Friday, Oct 4th at 5:00 pm letting me know if you have tried using Pan Pastels.

Swirly Christmas Tree and Poinsettias

Good Sunday morning.  My project today was made using the Impression Obsession Swirly Christmas Tree paired with tiny poinsettias made from the Hydrangea Set. I thought the Spellbinders Decorative Labels Eight was the perfect layered background to frame the tree.

I started by cutting and assembling the decorative layers and mounting them to the card base with mounting tape. I wanted the tree to have a little dimension so I cut it out three times, attached them together with glossy accents and attached them to the base.

I cut the little hydrangea petals, assembled them to create the flowers and attached them to the tree with glossy accents.

I finished by attaching the gold star and multi loop bow to the top of the tree.

Christmas Welcome Home

Good Saturday morning.  It certainly is no secret that I love making house cards, especially during the holidays.  The new Impression Obsession Door/ Window set and Fence Trio are just the perfect size for an A2 card front to create a welcoming front door scene.

KC IMpression Obsession Door Window 2 left
I started by cutting the door and top window.  The door die cuts a frame with open windows so I added a piece of cardstock to the back to create the closed panels. I left the window open.  I attached a thinly scored and folded piece of cardstock to the door to create the appearance of a step and then attached the door to the card base.  I used the window as a template to draw lines as a guide and cut the opening with my craft knife.  I cut two windows and attached them together with glossy accents so it would be the equal thickness of the door with the added back panel.  Did that make sense?  I attached the window to the opening with glossy accents.  The see thru window doesn’t show well in the photos but it is really a sweet touch in person.  I used a tiny brush and white watercolor paint to apply falling snow flakes on the card base. I cut a roof, crimped it, applied flower soft and attached it to the card base. The top of the roof was attached directly to the base and the lower edge of the roof was attached with mounting tape for added dimension.

Next I cut two fence sections and a small grass border.  I know…you are thinking to yourself….grass border?  Huh?  I wanted to create an uneven snowy border for the fence and the grass fit the bill perfectly.  I applied glossy accents to the grass and applied Flower Soft. I attached the snowy grass sections directly to the fence sections. I cut the trees, crimped them, lightly applied Flower Soft and attached them to the card base with mounting tape.  I attached the fence sections to the trees and card base with mounting tape.

I created pine boughs with sprigs of pine and attached red bows to create old-fashioned holiday decorations. I lightly applied spots of glossy accents  and Flower Soft to the to the pine and bows for the finishing touch.

Here a couple closer views.

I love how this turned out.  I want to walk right up the path and into the welcoming entry way.

Hint: I keep my Flower Soft in Glad containers that are large enough to lay my pieces of prepared cardstock face down to gather the Flower Soft.  They are also perfect for catching it when you just want to lightly sprinkle. I also store my embossing powders this way and keep plastic spoons in each one.

Thanks for stopping by today and I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Spooky Halloween Scene

Good Friday morning.  I have another fun Halloween project to share with you today. This time I have scary jack-o-lanterns, ghosts, spooky branches and flying bats made from the Impression Obsession Pumpkin, Halloween Set, Ghosts and Bare Branch.

KC Impression Obsession Pumpkin 1 right

I started by cutting the large pumpkin  three times.  I wanted to have three different shaped pumpkins so I trimmed two of them down with my snips following the scored lines.  I die cut the faces out, placed yellow cardstock in behind the openings and applied yellow stickles to create the look of sparkly fire and set them aside to dry.  I cut the ghosts, branches and bats for the scene and placed black cardstock in behind the face openings of the ghosts so they would show up better in the design. I created a double matted frame using my matting basics a and matting basics b sets and attached it to the card base with mounting tape.

I attached the pumpkins on the frame with mounting tape and attached the branches to the top of the frame with glossy accents.  I attached the three ghosts in the scene with mounting tape and added the bats to the branches with glossy accents for the finishing touch. I love the versatility of the bare branch.  It can be made so by adding leaves and flowers and so spooky in black for Halloween projects. I love how the bright orange, black and white images show up against the background patterned paper.

Review of Spellbinders Matting Basics A and Matting Basics B

I wanted to give you my review of the two Spellbinders matting sets.  I have the worst time getting my cardstock cut straight for my A2 cards even with my guillotine cutter.  I was thrilled to see these sets released and they have become my “go to” for everything from layering to creating my double matted frames. If you don’t have these I highly suggest you put them on your wish list. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that Spellbinders will come out with square sets as well.

I am so glad you stopped by and I hope you have a wonderful day.

Dimensional Halloween Collage

Good Thursday morning.  I am on vacation this week and the days seem to be flying by.  My project today is a dimensional collage of Impression Obsession Halloween images.  It may be a little over the top but I sure love how it turned out. I used the Halloween Set, Halloween Hill, Spider, Ghosts, Large Window with Box and the Brick Cover-a-Card.

This photo is one I took with some lighting effects to add a touch of Halloween spookiness.

I started by stamping the brick on the card base. I cut and assembled 2 windows. I used the window  as a template to draw lines on the base to cut for the see thru window. I cut the opening with a craft knife and attached the front window over the opening with ATG adhesive.  I attached the cobweb to the backside of the window opening and then attached the second window on the inside of the card to create a clean finish.  You can see step by step photos of how I make my see thru window card here

Next I cut and attached the silhouette images on the inside of the card.  After I finished and photographed this card I wondered why I hadn’t put in a large yellow moon right behind the witch.  Oh well….next time.  LOL!

I attached the window box under the window with two layers of mounting tape to use as a prop for the ghost, jack-o-lantern and bat. The spider was the final finishing touch. I would hate to run into him.
