Leaves with Pan Pastel

Good Sunday morning.  I posted a project yesterday with bright green pine and chickadees against an all white background.  I love layering color over an all white or cream background.  My project today is brightly colored Impression Obsession Leaves against a cream background.  I added a decorative element with the Border Duo 1 but it is really all about the leaves and the bare branches.  I colored the leaves with Susan’s Pan Pastel and have a few step by step photos to show you below.

I cut the decorative border using Border Duo 1 , scored both sides with my Scor-Pal  and mounted it to the card base with mounting tape.

I colored the leaves with pan pastel, formed them with the molding pad and stylus and attached them with glossy accents in a free style design. I used the Bare Branch to cut a few pieces of branch, sponged them with vintage photo ink, formed them lightly with the stylus and molding pad and tucked them into the design and attached with glossy accents. Here’s a side view.

Some may not like the look of the bare branches showing but to me they are as significant to the design as the leaves.  Together they display the wonder of fall.

I layered three colors on the leaves starting with the lightest and building up.  Yellow, Orange, Red Iron Oxide

1 leaves

I covered the whole leaf with yellow.

2 leaves

I added the orange to most of the leaf but left some of the yellow showing.

3 leaves

I sponged the red on and smoothed it from the center out leaving some of the orange and yellow showing.

4 leaves

After the first pass with the red I added more to the center to add more depth of color and light sponged outward.

5 leaves

I formed the leaf with the stylus and molding pad to create a natural appearance and to add dimension.

I hope you find these coloring tutorials helpful.  Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a wonderful and relaxing Sunday.

Pine Branch and Birds

Good Saturday morning. Whew!  What a long work week I have had.  I am so glad it is the weekend.  I have been in the mood to use some of my winter and fall dies and images and thought I would post one using the Impression Obsession Pine Branch and Birds die set and No Place Like Home stamp set.  I love placing the pine against an all white background. I have created several cards similar to this but just can’t seem to help myself from making more.  LOL!

This is really a straight forward card.  I die cut the decorative border using Border Duo 2 and mounted it to the card base with mounting tape.

I cut the pine and sponged on a little vintage photo ink over the branch area, formed lightly with my stylus and molding pad and attached the base with glossy accents. I stamped the birds, watercolored with pumice stone ink and die cut.  You can check out my tutorial here to see how I line up my dies and stamped images.  I attached the birds to the branches with rolled glue dots and finished with the multi loop bow.

Color Challenge Layered Hearts

Good Wednesday morning.  My project today was made for the Splitcoaststampers Color Challenge.I pulled out my Impression Obsession Layered Hearts die and paired it with Spellbinders Heart Square. The colors for the challenge were Smoky Slate, Crushed Curry and Coastal Cabana.

Here’s what I came up with.

This is a little out of my norm but I thought the layered heart die would look great against the yellow background with all the layers popped up for dimension.

I popped up the a few of the larger negative hearts in the main heart image as well as on the tag. I was fairly challenged trying to add the slate color to this so I only used used it on my sentiment.  Is that cheating??  LOL!

Strawberry Basket and Butterflies

Good Monday morning.  My project today was made using Impression Obsession Wooden Strawberry Basket, Single Strawberry, Three Strawberries, Grass Border, Square Shaker Frames, Flourish and Butterfly Set. Beware this project may lead to craving strawberry shortcake. It did me!!! LOL!

KC Impression Obsession Strawberries 1 left

I started by stamping the strawberry images several times, colored with copic markers and cut out to pop up in the basket.  I stamped the basket once and cut out.  I arranged and attached the berries inside the basket using rolled glue dots.  I wanted them to have dimension.

KC Impression Obsession Strawberries 1 center

I attached the grass border to the back of the square shaker frame and then attached it to the card base with mounting tape.  I hand cut two strips of red with decorative scissors to place on both the top and bottom of the card base for another decorative element against the white. I tucked the basket of berries in behind the grass inside the frame and attached in place with mounting tape. I dabbed crystal clear gel to add shine to the berries.  I added the flourish pieces, butterflies and one lone strawberry in the grass for the finishing touch.

Here is a closer side view so you can see the dimension.

Susan’s Lily and Tutorial

Good Sunday morning.  I have another Susan Tierney Cockburn flower project to share with you today with a step by step tutorial showing how I colored the flower petals with Susan’s Pan Pastels and assembled the flower.

I made this project for the Splitcoaststampers Inspiration Challenge.  The inspiration site was thomaspaul and I was inspired by the set of dishes pictured below.

TP-62-1[1]

I wanted to keep the card front very simple so the flower could be the main star. I had so much fun adding color to the petals with the pan pastels.  I wanted the flower to be vibrant against the black background.

I have never used anything like the pan pastels.  They are so creamy and the color coverage is amazing. If you are a paper flower maker then you will definitely want to consider checking this set out.

I love how the yellow and dark pink blend together to create such a natural look to the petals. Not only did I use the pastels on the petals but I also brightened up the leaves with a bit of yellow.  Here a couple of different closer views.

Click here and scroll down to see Susan’s lily video tutorial.  My tutorial below is just to show how I used the pan pastels and how I put my flower together.  I hope you find it helpful.

Thanks for stopping by today and I hope you have a wonderful Sunday.

Lily Tutorial

Supplies:  Cardstock, Sizzix Accessory Tool Kit, Pan Pastels and Sponge Stylus, Crafter’s Pick Ultimate Glue, Rose Red R85 Marker

My pictures are pretty self explanatory and don’t need much comment.  I applied the yellow to the petal first and then followed by blending in the dark pink. I finished the petal with a touch of yellow right at the bottom part of the petal.

I added green to the lighter green piece to add brightness.

I added a touch of green to the leaves.

I used a rose red Copic marker to add the markings on the flower and color the tips of the stamen.

The picture below shows the petals and leaves formed by the tools in the accessory tool kit.

1

I attach the petals to the flower base and then set it in the flower pot tray to hold it in place while the glue dries.

2

4

I added leaf green flower soft  to the tips of the stamen and allowed it to dry.  I rolled the stamen around the tweezers and glued it at the base.

5

I applied glue to the tip base of the stamen and attached it in the flower center and held it in place for a minute to set.

7

After my flower dried I turned back the petals just to make them fit on my card front.  If I were using this flower in a large arrangement I would have left the petals standing.
