Puffy Hydrangea

Do you love hydrangeas?  I sure do!  They remind me of my mother selling them in her flower shop for the Mother’s Day holiday. I have been using the Martha Stewart triple hydrangea punch to make layered individual flowers but decided I wanted to figure out a way to create a large puffy looking hydrangea.  Here is what I came up with.

I punched out three size circle punches graduating from 1 3/8” to 3/4” in size.  I layered the circles with mounting tape between each one to create a sort of riser for the base of the flower.  I punched out a ton of the mini flowers and shaped them using a stylus and mouse pad. I started applying the single petals with adhesive on the top layer and gradually worked my way down layer by layer until I had completed the whole flower.  It is hard to see  in the photo but the flower has the perfect rounded rise.

I had lots of fun making this flower.  If you would be interested in me doing a step by step tutorial just leave me a comment and I will try to put one up soon.  It’s so much easier than it sounds. I have several tutorials you can check out on how to make the punched flowers, wreaths and sprays.

I hope you are having a great week.

  1. YES! PLEASE! Your inspiration and instruction have helped me make several cards with wreaths. I am going to try a spray next. I even have one of your cards saved as the screen-saver on my computer. Thank you so much, Kittie. Hope your day is good and brings you new ideas to share with all of us! (smile)

  2. This is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! I have seen others but they use a styrofoam ball cut in two. This makes the card very heavy and bulky. I would love to see the tutorial, hydrangeas are my sister’s FAVORITE flower and she grows many different kinds and colors. It would be great to send her a card like this. You cards are such art – very, very inspiring.
